Write your Own Article about MegaStructures in our Engg. Wiki

A mega structure, as its name reveals is an artificial construct build by high level engineering. The products of mega-scale engineering or astro-engineering are MegaStructures. MegaStructures are sometimes also called megaprojects. The concept of mega structures has evolved due to the fact that the population of the world is increasing rapidly; the use of land and its prices have increased and still the problem remains so…MegaStructures covered vast areas of land and develop them efficiently by combining thousands of houses, offices, markets and recreational areas into a single huge structure.

Some of the MegaStructures are listed below:

Itaipu Dam, Brazil - World's Most Powerful dam
The Hoover Dam - America's most iconic structure
Burj Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Palm Islands Dubai - World's Extreme Islands
Sydney Opera House, Australia
University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, USA
Niagara Tunnel Project
Tarbela Dam
Hong Kong International Airport
Interstate Highway System, United States of America
Gibraltar tunnel between Morocco and Spain
Moscow-City in Russia
The Paradise Project in Liverpool, UK
Deep Tunnel Project, Chicago

The traditional building materials for bridges are stones, timber and steel, and more recently reinforced and pre-stressed concrete. For special elements aluminum and its alloys and some types of plastics are used. These materials have different qualities of strength, workability, durability and resistance against corrosion. They differ also in their structure, texture and color or in the possibilities of surface treatment wiexture... read more [Read More]
